Pastor of Discipleship & Outreach
Raised in northern California, Kent Copley is an avid fan of both the San Francisco Forty-Niners and the Giants; but don’t hold that against him if you’re not! More importantly, he is an avid Christ-follower with a heart for practicing and living an intentional life that aims to bring the aroma of Jesus Christ into the places where we live, work, play, and worship. That passion dovetails perfectly with Parkside’s mission of “Intentionally connecting people every day with the transforming love of Jesus Christ.” What a perfect melding of visions, and we’re thrilled to welcome Kent and his family to Parkside!
Kent recently reflected, “I am deeply concerned for the spiritual well-being of the next generation. Current trends indicate that Christianity is in a decline in the US Church. It has been said by many that we, the Church, are not even reaching our own kids for Christ, let alone the unchurched. We have some work to do, and I want to be a part. I look forward to being part of a pastoral staff and congregation where the vision, common objectives, collaboration, and teamwork (through prayer), make ministry fun and rewarding. Part of that “fun” is seeing lives change through a surrendered relationship with Jesus.”
Bringing with him a deep passion for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and a powerful personal testimony of transformation, Kent also has a background in ministry that will be foundational as he serves at Parkside. During his previous years of ministry, he served as Executive Pastor at a Christian & Missionary Alliance church in Washington state. He led in the development of home groups, adult Bible Fellowship groups, and Wednesday night elective classes. He also served in oversight of various ministries throughout the church, including local/global missions programs and global missions trips. He was a teaching pastor, handled pastoral care, counseling, visitations, and had administrative oversight of the church. Another exciting part of his previous ministry experience reflects Kent’s priority of the practice of missional living. While on the pastoral staff in Moses Lake, he served as a Chaplain for the Police Department for ten years. His community-mindedness also led him to be an active participant in their local Ministerial Association. Both opportunities he hopes to continue here in Visalia! In fact, he’s already accomplished his first ride-along with the Police Department!
Kent and his beautiful wife, Staci, return to Visalia with great anticipation for all that God has in store. They have been married for 29 years and it is evident that they still love being together! Staci previously worked as a mentoring coach in an elementary school in Washington state and has now taken a position in elementary education in a local school district. Together they have two daughters – Tori, a student at Eastern Washington University, and Britni who is in her senior year of high school. As a family they are self-proclaimed “I Love Lucy” fans, and family fun nights include both card and board games! For his personal relaxation and refreshment, Kent enjoys an occasional round of golf or spending time casting a fishing line into a pristine Lake.
His ministry will begin here at Parkside in September, and it is with great anticipation and excitement that we welcome Kent to our pastoral team and the entire Copley family to our community of believers!
